Ratio Problems

WALT - solve ratio problems using division.

1. A herd of 52 horses has 12 white and some black horses. What is the ratio of white to black horses?
12:52
52 - 12= 40 black horses
40 ÷ 2= 20
12 ÷ 2= 6
20 ÷ 2= 10
6 ÷ 2= 3
3:10

2. A pattern has 5 blue triangles to every 80 yellow triangles. What is the ratio of blue triangles to all triangles?
5 x 16= 80
80 ÷ 16= 5
80 + 5= 85
5:85

3. Noah drew 22 hearts and 76 circles. What is the ratio of circles to all shapes?
22:98
22 ÷ 2= 11
98 ÷ 2= 49
11:49

4. A pattern has 14 blue triangles to every 18 yellow triangle. What is the ratio of yellow triangles to blue triangles?
18:14
18 ÷ 2= 9
14 ÷ 2= 7
9:7

5. A pattern has 6 blue triangles to 42 yellow triangles. What is the ratio of yellow triangles to blue triangles?
42:6
42 ÷ 2= 21
6 ÷ 2= 3
21:3
21 ÷ 3= 7
7:1

6. A group of preschoolers has 63 boys and 27 girls. What is the ratio of boys to all children?
63 + 27= 90
63:90
63 ÷ 3= 21
90 ÷ 3= 30
21:30
21 ÷ 3= 7
30 ÷ 3= 10
